James & Cassie Olson - Owners of Oaxacafé Coffee Company
The journey to Oaxacafé for James and Cassie Olson began in 1988. As teenagers, they traveled with their Spanish class to Oaxaca, Mexico. James and Cassie were introduced to the extreme beauty of Oaxaca, but also the extreme poverty of its indigenous population.
Fast-forward to 2002: after traveling to Oaxaca for over 14 years, the Olsons started a non-profit to help with projects linked to "community transformation" in the mountains of Oaxaca.
Over the years, James and Cassie have enjoyed the coffee in Oaxaca. On a trip to Oaxaca in 2003, James discovered coffee plantations not being harvested because farmers were not getting a fair price for their crops. For this reason, many farmers had abandoned their fields to find work in the States.
The vision for Oaxacafé was birthed with the goal of roasting fine gourmet coffee while making a difference for the people of Oaxaca.....
"Taste the difference...Make a difference".
